New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Less than 24-hours after the AYUSH ministry belled the alarm against Patanjali Ayurved, to ensure that Ayurveda firm stops advertising its latest product ‘Coronil’ as a COVID-cure, Uttarakhand government has now said that Haridwar-based company was given the license for manufacturing an "immunity booster," and that its application had no mention of it being a cure for Covid-19.

"As per Patanjali's application, we issued them a license. They didn't mention coronavirus, we only approved the license for immunity booster, cough and fever. We'll issue them a notice asking how they got permission to make the kit (for COVID-19)," YS Rawat, Licence Officer at the Uttarakhand Ayurveda Department told the news agency ANI.

Girish Janpangi, nodal officer for AYUSH in Haridwar said that at the time of granting Coronil the license, only its immunity-booster properties were considered on a specific basis.

"The company's Coronil Tablet consists of Giloy, Tulsi and Ashwagandha. Each of these ingredients is known to have medicinal properties, and are commonly used in Ayurveda for treating different kinds of flu or fever. Our department has studied about their efficacy, but they cannot be seen as a cure for COVID yet," the official was quoted as saying by Economic Times.

Earlier, the AYUSH minister Shripad Naik, while acknowledging the effort which Patanjali has put out aiming to find the cure of vile contagion infection, said that it (Coronil) needs proper permission from AYUSH Ministry before Patanjali restarts advertising it as a COVID cure and begins to sell it to the people.

“Anyone can make medicines. Anyone who wants to make medicines has to go through the Ayush ministry task force. Everyone has to send details of the research to the Ayush ministry for confirmation. This is the rule and no can advertise their products without it," the minister had said.

Earlier on Tuesday, Yoga Guru Baba Ramdev’s Patanjali Ayurved launched its Ayurvedic medicine Coronil, to treat COVID-19 patients. Patanjali had claimed that the new evidence-based Ayurvedic medicine can cure COVID-19 patients within 5 to 14 days.

"We've prepared the first Ayurvedic-clinically controlled, research, evidence and trial-based medicine for Covid-19. We conducted a clinical case study and a clinical controlled trial. We found that 69% of patients recovered in 3 days and 100% patients recovered in 7 days," said Baba Ramdev.
