New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Nine people were killed and 19 others injured in a gunfight between two groups allegedly over a property dispute in Uttar Pradesh’s Sonbhadra district on Wednesday. Two nephews of the village have been arrested in connection with the case.

As per local media reports, the gunfight which took place in district’s Ghorawal block lasted for around one hour.

District Magistrate Ankit Kumar Agarwal told Bharat Samachar that around 100 miscreants were involved in the gunfight. 

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath took cognisance of the incident and expressed condolences to family of the deceased. He directed DM to provide immediate medical attention to injured. He also directed DGP to personally monitor the case and ensure effective action.

The incident occurred in Sapahi village. According to police, Sapahi village head Yagya Dutt and his supporters allegedly opened fire on the victims following a quarrel over a long pending land dispute.

The injured have been rushed to the hospital where the condition of some of them was stated to be critical.
