Manmohan Singh admitted to Delhi's AIIMS after complaining of chest pain
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has been admitted to AIIMS in Delhi after he complained of chest pain.
According to reports, the senior Congress leader was taken to the cardio-thoracic ward of AIIMS at around 8:45 pm and has been kept under observation.
Manmohan Singh has been admitted to a hospital room and not to the ICU (Intensive Care Unit). According to news agency PTI, he is being treated by Dr Nitish Naik, a professor of cardiology.
Rajasthan chief minister Ashok Gehlot expressed concern over Singh's health. “Much worried to know former PM Dr Manmohan Singh ji has been admitted to AIIMS. I wish him speedy recovery and pray for his good health and long life,” Gehlot tweeted.
He underwent two bypass surgeries in 1990 and 2009. He also has a history of diabetes.
87-year-old Singh served as the 13th prime minister from 2004 to 2014. The first Sikh in office, Singh was also the first prime minister since Jawaharlal Nehru to be re-elected after completing a full five-year term. He currently represents Rajasthan in the Upper House of Parliament.
