Jammu and Kashmir: Three JeM terrorists including a top commander killed in encounter in Kulgam
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Three Jaish e Mohammad terrorists were killed and three security personnel were injured in an encounter in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday, police said. The injured Army jawans were rushed to the Army hospital in the area.
"Three army jawans were injured during the exchange of fire and were evacuated to Army hospital. Killed terrorists are from Jaish-e-Mohammed and reportedly include a top terrorist commander known to be an IED expert", Dilbag Singh, Jammu & Kashmir DGP said as reported by ANI.
"He was taking instructions from Pakistani handlers & was responsible for a large number of attacks against security forces in the recent past. He was reportedly able to escape from 3-4 encounters, leaving behind a MO4 American rifle in one case", Dilbag Singh added.
Security forces launched a cordon and search operation early Friday morning in Nagnad area of the district following information about the presence of militants there, a police official said as reported by news agency PTI. He said the search operation turned into an encounter when the hiding militants opened fire on the security forces who retaliated.
Three militants were killed and three security personnel sustained injuries in the operation, the official said. The police also said that incriminating materials including arms & ammunition were also recovered from the slain militants.
"Out of the three terrorists killed in Kulgam today, one has been identified as 'Walid', a Pakistan national. He was active here for past one & a half years. He had escaped our cordon four times & was the most wanted terrorist", Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir said as reported by news agency ANI.
Earlier yesterday, an unidentified militant was killed when troops foiled an infiltration bid along the Line of Control (LoC) in Kupwara district of Jammu and Kashmir.
An Army official said the alert troops eliminated the intruder when they noticed suspicious movement across the LoC in Keran sector. "Terrorists tried to infiltrate but were intercepted by our troops. One terrorist was killed," the official said, adding an AK rifle was recovered.
