New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A civilian and a Central Police Reserve Force (CRPF) personnel succumbed to the injuries, while three other personnel of the CRPF were injured after terrorists open fire on CRPF patrolling party in Model town area of Jammu and Kashmir's Sopore, on Wednesday morning.  

According to senior Kashmir police official, the terrorists fired on the patrol party while hiding in a mosque. He also said that this is the second instance when the terrorists used a religious place for their attack. The police official also urged the Masjid committees to keep a check on who is entering the mosques. 

"Terrorists fired from a masjid on CRPF party in Sopore, resulting in deaths of a jawan, a civilian & injuries to 3 personnel. Terrorists misused masjids in 2 operations in last 1 month. I request masjid committees to not let terrorists use religious places" Kashmir IG Vijay Kumar said as reported by ANI.  

The Jammu and Kashmir police have cordoned off the area and started the search operation. The injured personnel were rushed to the nearby hospital, news agency ANI reported. According to the CRPF, two of the three injured soldiers are critical. 

"Terrorists attacked a Naka party at Model town in Sopore. Injuries to some Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans and a civilian reported. Area cordoned off and search operation started" Dilbag Singh, DGP Jammu & Kashmir Police said as reported by news agency ANI. 


According to the Jammu and Kashmir police, they have also rescued a 3-year-old boy from getting by bullets while the terrorists attacked the patrolling party in Sopore. 


Terrorists resorted to indiscriminate firing on a CRPF patrol party in Baramulla district's Sopore town, about 50 km from Srinagar, police said. The CRPF troops retaliated but the terrorists managed to escape. A total of four CRPF personnel were injured in the attack, of which one succumbed to the injuries. A civilian, who was in a car with his children, also lost his life after getting hit by bullets.

The Kashmir Zone police also tweeted that "We #lost one CRPF personnel and one civilian in a #terrorist#attack at #Sopore. Three CRPF personnel also got injured in the attack. Area has been cordoned off and search is on to nab the #terrorists". 

On Monday, security forces killed three terrorists, including Hizbul Mujahideen commander Masood Ahmed Bhat, in an encounter in Anantnag district.
