Srinagar | Jagran News Desk: In a huge success, the security forces on Sunday eliminated five terrorists in Jammu and Kashmir's Shopian, Indian Army officials while adding that no collateral damage took place during the operation.

The security forces have said that they are trying to identity the slain militants and trying to check to which group they were affiliated. However, an unconfirmed media report suggests that top Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Farooq Ahmed Bhat alias Nali was killed in the encounter by the security forces.

Nali, who is a resident of Jammu and Kashmir's Yaripora, was an A++ category terrorists. Two weeks ago, he had managed to escape from the security forces in the Yaripora area of Kulgam district.   

"Five terrorists have been eliminated in operation Reban in Shopian," Indian Army spokesperson Colonel Rajesh Kalia said, as reported by news agency PTI.

The Jammu and Kashmir police, on the other hand, said that the Superintendent of Police (SP) in Shopian recieved  information that as many as five terrorists were hiding at Shopian's Reban in south Kashmir, following which a joint operation was launched by the Indian Army, police and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on Saturday.

The officials further said that the search operation turned into an encounter after militants opened fired at a search party of the forces, who retaliated. 

"Terrorists opened fire when we started a search operation today morning. In retaliatory fire, five terrorists including two commanders were killed. No collateral damage has occurred during the operation," news agency ANI quoted Vijay Kumar, Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Zone as saying.

According to a NDTV report, the security forces had to face stone pelting. The situation, however, was brought under control by additional forces and suspending internet.

Meanwhile, the security forces have said that a large number of arms and ammunition have been recovered from the area. According to an India Today report, the security forces recovered three AK-47 rifles and two pistols from the area.
