J-K: Two terrorists killed in encounter with security forces in Anantnag, huge cache of weapons recovered
Srinagar | Jagran News Desk: At least two terrorists were killed after an encounter broke between security forces and militants in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag district on Saturday, said a senior police official.
The police official, quoted by news agency PTI, said that the encounter took place at night in the Sangam area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir while adding that the terrorists belonged to Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT).
The official further said that the security forces are trying to identify the terrorists, adding that huge cache of arms and weapons have been discovered from the site of the encounter.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Dilbag Singh said that the slained terrorists have been identified as Naveed Ahmed Bhat and Aaqib Yaseen Bhat, adding that they were involved in many terrorist activities.
"In 2020 so far, there have been 12 successful operations, in which 25 terrorists have been killed, nine terrorist operatives in Kashmir and 3-4 terrorist operatives arrested in Jammu area. More than 40 over-ground-workers have also been arrested," Singh, quoted by ANI, said.
In similar encounter last month, the security forces had killed three Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists in the Shopian district in Jammu and Kashmir.
A police official, quoted by news agency PTI, had said that the security forces had launched a cordon and search operation in Wacchi area of Shopian district following information about presence of terrorists there, adding that the terrorists were asked to surrender but they opened fire towards security forces' positions.
"In the ensuing encounter, three terrorists of Hizbul Mujahideen were killed," the official had said.
The official further said that one of the slain terrorists was identified as Adil Ahmad, a special police officer who had deserted the force in 2018 and decamped with seven AK assault rifles from the official residence of then MLA Wacchi Aijaz Ahmad Mir from Jawahar Nagar area of the city.
