Ivanka, Jared Kushner to accompany Donald Trump during India visit: Sources
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Daughter Ivanka Trump and son-in-law Jared Kushner will accompany US President Donald Trump during his visit to India on February 24 and 25, official sources told PTI on Friday. The couple will be a part of the high-level delegation. Apart from Ivanka and Kushner, the US first lady Melania Trump is also part of the delegation, which includes Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.
Both Ivanka and Kushner are senior advisors to the US President.
Donald Trump will arrive in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on February 24 for a little less than 36-hour India trip. He will inaugurate the world's largest cricket stadium-- Motera an attend the 'Namaste Trump' event. The US President will them travel to Agra to visit the Taj Mahal where he is expected to spend a few hours before arriving in Delhi for the main leg of the visit.
Speaking to PTI, the official sources said, "The US has confirmed that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner, Trump's senior advisor, will be part of the US president's delegation."
Deepening engagement in the Indo-Pacific region, boosting counter-terror cooperation, augmenting defence and trade ties and India's concerns over H1B visas are expected to figure in talks between Trump and Modi on February 25.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Donald Trump have had eight meetings so far since the latter assumed office in January 2017. Five of these meetings have been held in the past eight months.
Meanwhile, the US trade representative, Robert Lighthizer, will not be coming, said a report.
According to an NDTV report, Lighthizer and commerce minister Piyush Goyal has been negotiating for a trade deal since Trump has announced his visit, but with reports of no trade deal between India and the US during Trump's visit both sides have put off any deal.
