New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: TMC MP from Jadavpur constituency in West Bengal, Mimi Chakraborty on Monday backed her colleague Jaya Bachchan, who said that rapists should be publicly lynched and added that only immediate punishments can deter sexual predators from targeting women. Speaking to ANI, Mimi said, "I agree with her. I don't think we need to take the rapists to courts with protection and then wait for justice. Immediate punishment is needed." The statement comes amid uproar over the rape and murder of a 26-year-old veterinarian in Hyderabad.

The actor-turned-politician also spoke on the need to make stricter laws to deter potential rapists from raping women. "I request all concerned ministers to please make a law so strong that a person thinks 100 times before, let alone rape, but even before looking at a woman with ill-intentions," she said in a tweet.

Earlier on Monday, Samajwadi MP Jaya Bachchan had led a chorus of angry voices against the Telanagana incident in the Rajya Sabha. "These kinds of people need to be brought out in public and lynched. I think it is time... whether it is Nirbhaya or Kathua or what happened this time, the people want the government to give a proper and definite answer," she had said.

Bachchan had also demanded that people who have failed to protect women and children from such acts should be 'named and shamed'.

Meanwhile, AIADMK MP Vijila Sathyanand broke down during a speech saying India is not safe for women and children.

The cops have arrested four accused--aged between 20 and 26-- in the rape and murder incident of the vet who was burnt after rape and murder under a culvert on the outskirts of Hyderabad.  Three cops were suspended for negligence.
