Golden Baba Sudhir Makkar dies due to prolonged illness
Sudhir Makkar, known as 'Golden Baba' for wearing heavy gold jewelry died due to prolonged illness on Tuesday. He was 59 years old and undergoing treatment at Delhi's AIIMS hospital. Golden Baba was famous for wearing gold ornaments during his 'Kanwar Yatra'.
He reduced the weight of gold to 14 kg during his Kanwar Yatra last year due to health issues. He had gone was a yatra wearing 20 kg gold in 2018.
Golden Baba's real name was Sudhir Makkar. He was a resident of Ghaziabad and ran a garment shop in Delhi before turning a hermit. He also had several criminal cases against him.
Baba had once revealed that he has around 21 gold chains crafted by renowned jewelers in Delhi and none of them weighed less than 500 grams. He also had more than 21 gold lockets, gold armlets and a luxury watch that valued around Rs 27 lakh.
Apart from gold jewelry, Baba was also fond of luxury cars. He owned expensive cars ranging from BMW, Fortuners, Audis and Innovas.
