‘Discipline shown by citizens during lockdown helped control 'exponential' growth of COVID-19: PM Modi after meet with CMs
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday said that the discipline showed by the citizens during the coronavirus pandemic has helped the government a lot in stopping the exponential growth the deadly virus in the country. He also attributed the timely measures taken by the government in stopping the spread of the virus.
"The number of patients who have recovered from COVID-19 till now is more than the number of active cases in the country. Also, at present, ventilator and ICU care are needed for very few patients across the country," the Prime Minister said as reported by news agency ANI.
The Prime Minister’s remarks came on the second leg of his interaction with Chief Ministers via video conferencing to discuss the situation created by COVID-19 and plans ahead for tackling the disease. With this, the meeting which started yesterday concludes today.
This was his first meeting with Chief Ministers in `Unlock 1' phase after four phases of lockdown to contain the spread of coronavirus.
"We have been able to fight COVID-19 and control its spread because of the timely measures taken by us. Discipline shown by people of this country during lockdown has helped control the exponential growth of this virus," he said.
"Just three months back, there was a shortage of PPE kits and diagnostic kits across the world. In India too, we had a very limited stock because we were completely dependent on imports. But today, more than 1 crore PPE kits and an equal number of N95 masks have reached the states. We have over 900 testing labs now," PM Modi added.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi also batted for the expansion of the health infrastructure in the country and said that it should be the utmost priority of the authorities. He also emphasised on testing so that a person found infected person can be traced, isolated and treated.
Home Minister Amit Shah, who also took part in the video conference, after the meet said that the country has so far been successful in curbing the spread but its not the time to stop as the battle against the deadly infection is far from over.
“We've so far been quite successful in our fight against the virus under the leadership of the PM, but the battle is far from over. He underlined that as we begin to unlock, we must stay vigilant”, Amit Shah said.
The CMs after meet thanked the Prime Minister for his leadership and briefed him about the ground situation in states and their preparedness to tackle the impact of Coronavirus.
