Cyclone Amphan: Storm intensifies into 'super cyclone', PM Modi chairs high-level meeting | Highlights
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that cyclone Amphan, which intensified into an "extremely severe cyclonic storm" earlier, is expected to further intensify into a "super cyclonic storm" in the next 12 hours. The IMD has warned that Amphan will move to north-northeastwards and will hit the eastern coast on May 20 with a wind speed up to 185 km per hour.
Following the IMD's warning, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has called for a high-level meeting with Home Minister Amit Shah and the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) at 4 pm today to review the situation.

15:28 pm: Amphan intensifies into super cyclone; likely to cross West Bengal and Bangladesh coasts on May 20 as very severe cyclonic storm, says IMD
14:55 pm: Meanwhile, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) has deployed seven of its team in West Bengal and ten in Odisha.
14:37 pm: The IMD has said that Amphan is very likely to cross West Bengal-Bangladesh coasts between Digha (West Bengal) and Hatiya Islands (Bangladesh) during the afternoon or evening of May 20.
14:21 pm: "To review the arising cyclone situation in various parts of the country, PM @narendramodi ji will chair a high level meeting with MHA & NDMA, today at 4pm," Home Minister Amit Shah tweeted.

14:19 pm: In Odisha (7 districts) and West Bengal (6 districts), a total of 37 NDRF teams have been deployed, of which 20 teams will be actively deployed by the end of this day and 17 teams are on standby, says NDRF Director General SN Pradhan
14:19 pm: The IMD issued rainfall warning for Odisha, West Bengal, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim, Assam and Meghalaya till May 21 and advised fishermen not to venture into south Bay of Bengal for the next 24 hours.
14:18 pm: Cyclone Amphan will make contact with West Bengal on May 20, warned the IMD.
