New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The alleged custodial death of a father-son duo on June 19 in Tamil Nadu's Tuticorin district has created an atmosphere of massive rage against the state police in Tamil Nadu and rest of the country.

The father-son duo, P Jayaraj (59) and Bennicks (31) were reportedly picked up by the cops under Sathankulam Police station's jurisdiction on June 19 for allegedly violating lockdown rules. Both Jayaraj and Bennicks were allegedly beaten to death by the Police. On June 22, Fenix reportedly died at Kovilpatti General Hospital, while Fenix's father Jayaraj breathed last on June 23rd.

As the news of Jayaraj-Bennicks' death broke in Tamil Nadu and beyond, the demand for bringing the cops allegedly responsible for the deaths of the father-son duo started picking up the pace.

Many celebrities, including filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj, actress Khushbu and Jayam Ravi took to Twitter and demanded that the culprits responsible for the deaths of Fenix and Jayaraj should not get away with the blood on their hands.

"Will we and can we see law taking its course and punishing the guilty without any further delay in #Jeyaraj and #Fenix case? The culprits cannot and should not get away. A family has lost their most loved ones. Justice delayed is justice denied. #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix," actress-turned-politician Khushbu Sundar wrote on Twitter.

Filmmaker Karthik Subbaraj called it an ‘insult to humanism’ and demanded the deliverance of justice against the crime. “What happened in Saththankulam is HORRIBLE!! Insult to Humanism... The accused officials need to be Punished and Justice has to be given to those poor souls.... Some Humans are more dangerous than Viruses!! #JusticeForJeyarajAndFenix,” the ‘Penguin’ director wrote on Twitter.

Actor Jayam Ravi also took to Twitter and demanded justice against the inhuman act.

The killing of George Floyd in Police custody in the US had earlier sparked massive protests against police brutality and racial injustices in the US and beyond. The Jayaraj-Fenix's custodial death is being seen through the same prism of avoidable brutality allegedly passed off by the Police in the name of maintaining law and order.
