New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The number of coronavirus cases in India has increased to 19,984 on Tuesday while the death toll has surged to 640, according to the latest data by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. Of the total number of cases, 3,870 people have been cured and discharged from hospitals. 

Maharashtra continues to remain the worst affected state with 4669 cases, which includes 232 deaths. 

The health ministry has said that India's COVID-19 recovery rate has improved to 17.47 per cent.

The United States has recorded more than 8,00,000 confirmed cases of COVID19 and 44,845 deaths so far. Nearly 40,000 new cases reported between Monday 8:30 pm local time, and Tuesday at the same time.

The global death toll due to coronavirus has reached over 2.5 million with more than 1.75 lakh fatalities.

4:44 pm: State Govts/ UTs requested to appoint Nodal Officers at State/UT level&at Dist level, who would be available 24*7 to redress any safety issue on the functioning of medical professionals.They should also take immediate&strict action in case any incident of violence takes place:MHA

3:15 pm: Central Government has brought an ordinance to end violence against health workers, carries imprisonment from 6 months to 7 years if anyone found guilty.
