New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The coronavirus cases in the country reached 4,73,105 while the death toll due to the dreadful infection stood at 14,894. India stands at the fourth spot in worst-affected nations in the world. Only the USA, Brazil and Russia are ahead of India. The country’s national capital, Delhi, on Wednesday, surpassed Mumbai to become the worst-hit city in India. Delhi recorded 3,788 new infections during the last 24 hours taking the total toll to 70,390, while the death toll in the city also rose to 2,365 after 64 new fatalities were reported from the national capital on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday announced that the coronavirus-induced lockdown has been extended in the state till July 31. No train and metro service will not resume during the period. Also, schools, colleges and other educational institutions will continue to remain closed

5:45 pm: Punjab: A batch of 250 residents of Jammu & Kashmir return to the country via the Attari-Wagah border in Amritsar. Shivraj Singh Bal, SDM-2, Amritsar, says, "748 Indians have registered themselves to return to the country out of which 250 people of J&K are returning today."

5:30 pm: Health Dept to deploy robust surveillance mechanism.Only COVID positive cases who don't have adequate facilities at home to ensure physical segregation&don't have other medical conditions would require to be shifted to COVID Care Centres&other facilities:Delhi Lieutenant Governor


5:20 pm: We'll be observing standard operating protocols (SOPs) issued by Home&Health Ministries. The SOPs say that expatriates will have to follow the SOPs being implemented in those countries. Kerala Govt's guidelines are impractical for the MEA to implement: MoS, External Affairs

5:15 pm: Kerala Govt has issued some special guidelines for the expatriates who want to return to Kerala from Gulf countries. Regarding this, MEA has informed the govt that state-specific protocols can not be implemented: Minister of State for External Affairs V Muraleedharan

5:00 pm: The number of #COVID19 cases reaches 807 in Himachal Pradesh, of which 319 cases are active. 7 people have died due to the disease till date: State Health Department

10:00 am: Karnataka: S. Suresh Kumar, Primary Education Minister visited a School Leaving Certificate (SSLC) examination centre in Bengaluru today. The SSLC exams have commenced from today; about 8,48,203 students are appearing for the exams.
