New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: India on Thursday recorded 434 COVID-19 deaths and also a majority of cases--close to four lakh--in June to make it the worst month for the country prompting some states to go for varying degrees of lockdown. Maharashtra, Delhi and Tamil Nadu have accounted for over 70 per cent of 17,834 coronavirus deaths, according to the Union Health Ministry data.

The data updated at 9 am on Thursday also showed that 19,148 new infections were reported in 24 hours taking the tally to 6,04,641. At the same time, the recovery rate was also steadily improving to touch nearly 60 per cent. It is for the fifth consecutive day that coronavirus cases have increased by more than 18,000. The country has seen a surge of 3,94,958 infections or nearly 68 per cent of the total in June, according to an analysis of the ministry data.

3:15 pm: Varanasi: Wooden toymakers in the district say they are grappling to meet financial expenses due to less demand. A toymaker says, "Although wooden toys are better than Chinese toys, their demand is less. Lockdown also affected sales as tourists stopped visiting our shops."

3:00 pm: Modi and Putin took note of effective measures undertaken by the two countries to address the negative consequences of #COVID19 & agreed on the importance of closer India-Russia ties for jointly addressing the challenges of the post-COVID19 world.

2:50 pm: The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) today told Supreme Court that there may be difficulties in conducting the Chartered Accountants (CA) examinations, as there is a spike in #COVID19 cases in India. The Court fixed the matter for further hearing to July 10.

2:35 pm: Through a significant step announced by the Central Government, #COVID19 testing can now be done on the prescription of any registered practitioner, and not exclusively a Government doctor: Government of India


2:30 pm: Till now, 90,56,173 tests conducted through a diagnostic testing network. There are now 1065 testing labs in the country-768 in public sector & 297 pvt labs. Yesterday, as many as 2,29,588 people got tested for COVID-19: Government of India
