New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The number of coronavirus cases in India has crossed the grim mark of 8 lakh while the death toll has surged past 22,000, according to the latest information available at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. This development comes just days after the country entered the "Unlock 2.0" or the second phase of the phase-wise upliftment of the coronavirus-induced lockdown.

Amid the alarming rise across the country, several states and union territories (UTs) have started to reimpose the lockdown. So far, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal have reimposed lockdown while it has been extended in parts of Pune and Thane in Maharashtra and Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala.

Meanwhile, the Health Ministry has said that the national fatality rate for COVID-19 patients has declined to 2.72 per cent while the fatality rate of 30 states/UTs is lower than the national average.
