Coronavirus Pandemic: Arvind Kejriwal unveils ‘Operation SHIELD’ to tackle COVID-19 outbreak in Delhi
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Thursday announced that his administration is starting a comprehensive plan named 'SHIELD' to control the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital.
According to the Chief Minister, SHIELD stands for "Sealing of localities, Home Quarantine, Isolation and Tracking, Essential Supply-- like door to door delivery, Local Santisation-- areas to be disinfected on a regular basis and Door-To-Door Checking-- where people will be asked if they have any symptoms of COVID-19".
"We have ordered containment exercise in 21 areas of Delhi where COVID-19 cases have been found. We have SHIELD these areas to control the spread of COVID-19 in the national capital," said CM Kejriwal while addressing media here on Thursday.
On Wednesday, Delhi's Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia had said twenty hotspots have been identified in the national capital in the battle to contain COVID-19. But, the authorities added the Bengali Market in the list of the hotspot.
The areas where Operation SHIELD will be enforced include localities in Bengali Market, Sangam Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Mayur Vihar, Nizamuddin, Sangam Vihar, Dilshad Garden, Vasundhara Enclave, Dinpur Village, Patparganj, Kalyanpuri, Jahangirpuri, Dinpur Village, Kunj Extension, Pandav Nagar, Khichripur, Dilshad Garden, West Vinod Nagar, Seemapuri, and Jhilmil Colony.
Kejriwal also said that the Delhi government is providing free rations to 71 lakh people in the city.
"Now, we are also providing ration to those who do not have a ration card. We are facing a few problems but we will soon overcome these," he added.
He added that the government of Delhi has made it compulsory to wear face masks while heading out of home.
According to Health Ministry log, at least 669 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the national capital till date. The list includes 426 people from the Tablighi Jamaat event that took place in Nizamuddin Markaz last month.
