Coronavirus Pandemic: 1,993 new cases in last 24 hrs, highest in a day, take India's tally to 35,043; death toll climbs to 1,147
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: With 1,993 new coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours, highest in a day, the tally in India has crossed the 35,000-mark, said the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare while adding that 73 deaths were reported during the same period.
As per the data available at the Health Ministry website, the coronavirus has affected 35,043 and claimed the lives of 1,147 in India so far while 8,889 have been cured and discharged from hospitals.
The number of cases in Maharashtra, which is the worst affected state in India, has crossed the 10,000-mark while the death toll in the state has reached 459. In Gujarat, the number of cases have increased to 4,395 with 214 deaths while in Madhya Pradesh, the tally has climbed to 2,660 with 137 casualties.

In the national capital, Delhi, the tally has reached 3,515 with 59 deaths. The death toll stands at 58 in Rajasthan, 39 in Uttar Pradesh, 33 in West Bengal and 31 in Andhra Pradesh.
The death toll in Tamil Nadu is at 27, 26 in Telangana, 21 in Karnataka and 19 in Punjab. Jammu and Kashmir and Kerala have reported eight and four deaths respectively while Jharkhand and Haryana has reported three fatalities each.
Bihar has reported two fatalities while Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Meghalaya and Odisha have reported one death each.

Amid the surging coronavirus cases in the country, the Health Ministry has said that the recovery rate of COVID-19 patients has also improved to nearly 25.2 per cent, from about 13 per cent a fortnight ago.
The government has also said that India is doing better compared to other countries on all parameters in its fight against COVID-19 and should be able to win this decisive war in the coming few weeks.
