Ahmedabad | Jagran News Desk: Gujarat on Sunday reported its fifth coronavirus fatality after a 45-year-old COVID-19 patient died in Ahmedabad, said the state's Health and Family Department while adding that the he was suffering from diabetes.
"A 45-year-old COVID19 patient died today in Ahmedabad. He was suffering from diabetes. A total of five deaths have been reported from Gujarat," Gujarat Health and Family Welfare Department said, as quoted by news agency ANI.
With this, the death toll in India due to the deadly coronavirus have surged to 25.
On Saturday, the state had reported its fourth coronavirus death after a 46-year-old COVID-19 positive patient died in Ahmedabad's Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital.
"The patient was admitted to the hospital on March 26. She was suffering from hypertension, diabetes and was on a ventilator," Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel Hospital had said in a statement.
The total number of deaths due to coronavirus in Gujarat have reached five with three deaths in Ahmedabad, and one each in Bhavnagar and Surat while the number of confirmed cases have surged to 53 after six more people tested positive for the infection, said state's Health and Family Welfare Department Principal Secretary Jayanti Ravi.
"On Saturday, six more positive cases were found. Among the affected are persons from Gandhinagar, Mehsana and Ahmedabad who got infected through local transmission," she had said, as quoted by news agency IANS.
"We have covered a significant population of the state, that is 4,46,60,856 people have been covered under the survey so far in the state, carried out by ten thousand health workers in the state. The survey found travel history of total 60,708 where 50,169 had interstate travelling and 10,539 had travelled abroad," Ravi said.
The number of cases of the novel coronavirus are increasing very quickly. As the situation turned alarming, the government has imposed a 21-day lockdown in the nation and has urged people to avoid all 'non-essential' travel.
