UP to impose 'mini lockdown' as coronavirus cases rise; offices, markets to remain close on weekends | All you need to know
Lucknow | Jagran News Desk: In order to control the coronavirus crisis in Uttar Pradesh, the Yogi Adityanath government will impose ‘weekend lockdowns’ in the state. According to a report by Dainik Jagran, the state government will impose complete lockdowns on Saturdays and Sundays in Uttar Pradesh to break the chain of the novel coronavirus. As per the report, all markets, private and government offices will remain shut and only essential services will be exempted from the restrictions.

However, Additional Chief Secretary of the Uttar Pradesh Home Department Awanish K Awasthi has said that banks and other industrial units will not close down during the mini lockdown.
The mini lockdown will be enforced in the state control the spread of the deadly coronavirus and stringent restrictions will be put in force, the report claimed. The report also claimed that the state government will allow the district magistrates (DMs) to make rules for markets and offices in districts.
Coronavirus in Uttar Pradesh:
According to the latest information available at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare website, the highly contagious coronavirus, which originated in China’s Wuhan, has affected more than 35,000 and claimed over 900 lives in UP so far.
As per the data available at the Union Home Ministry website, the recovery rate in Uttar Pradesh is 64.65 per cent as more than 22,600 people have recovered from coronavirus and discharged from hospitals.
The Yogi Adityanath government has also imposed a 55-hour mini lockdown in the state till 5 am Monday to control the coronavirus crisis.
‘Will conduct door-to-door medical screening in UP’
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that the state government has also given instructions to conduct door-to-door medical screening while adding that 15,000 to 20,000 antigen COVID-19 tests will be conducted per day.
“Medical screening and testing are the most important means to prevent the spread of coronavirus infection. Your government has given instructions to conduct door-to-door medical screening. If anyone is detected with the symptoms, they will be tested by taking their samples. You all should be aware, be alert. Staying protected is treatment,” Adityanath said in a tweet in Hindi.
