New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: With the number of coronavirus cases increasing at an alarming rate the country, the officials on Sunday said that the containment zones in Delhi have increased to 421 after a re-mapping of such areas. The officials said that 141 areas were declared as containment zones after re-mapping in last two days while adding that 87 areas have been decontained so far. The officials further said that there were 280 containment zones in the national capital before the re-mapping exercise which was launched on June 26. 

According to the data available at the Delhi government website, North Delhi district has 59 containment zones, followed by South Delhi which has 56, Central Delhi with 40, Shahdara with 38. East Delhi has 33 containment zones while Southeast Delhi has 32. Northwest Delhi has 28 containment zones while West Delhi, New Delhi and Northeast Delhi 25, 21 and nine containment zones respectively. 

According to the Union Home Ministry, the highly contagious coronavirus has affected more than 80,000 people and claimed the lives of over 2,500 in the national capital while more than 49,000 have been cured and discharged from hospitals. 

Amid the alarming rise in the number of coronavirus cases in the city-state, a serological survey commenced in some parts of the city on Saturday. Nearly 600 samples collected on the first day in the Central district.

The Union Health Ministry said that blood samples of around 20,000 people will be tested as a part of the survey to ascertain the population-level presence of antibodies, which indicates past infections.

This activity will be taking place along with door-to-door screening and increased testing for Covid-19 in the National capital. Delhi government the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) will jointly carry out the exercise till July 10.

Authorities on Sunday said that the number of containment zones in the capital is expected to rise as authorities in some districts were yet to complete the redrawing of few areas according to directions issued by the Centre. According to the Covid-19 response plan issued by the Delhi government, the re-mapping of the containment zones will be completed by June 30, reports PTI.
