6:00 pm: Union Minister V Muraleedharan: Centre is closely monitoring the developments in the Gulf region. EAM has spoken to his counterparts in Jordan, Oman, Qatar, France & UAE. He has also spoken to Foreign Minister of Iran and the US Secretary of State.
5:50 pm: Indian Naval Ship Sumedha, presently on Anti Piracy Patrol in Gulf of Aden, provided fresh water and medical supplies to the crew of stranded dhow Al-Hamid on 6th January. The dhow had suffered a broken main engine shaft. Later, tt was towed to safety away from the Somali coast.

4:30 pm: A Delhi court has directed urgent medical treatment to Bhim Sena Chief Chandrashekhar Azad till tomorrow if required. The court was hearing his plea for medical treatment. Matter adjourned for Jan 9 as Investigating Officer did not submit Azad's medical report in court today.
