BJP leader Anurag Sharma shot dead in UP's Rampur
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: A leader from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Anurag Sharma on Wednesday night was shot dead by unknown assailants in Uttar Pradesh's Rampur's Aghapur area. Anurag Sharma was also the husband of Rampur councillor.
The BJP leader was shot dead by bike-borne unknown assailants when he was returning to his house in Jwala Nagar on his two wheeler.He was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital but succumbed to his injuries on the way.
According to a report by news agency IANS, Anurag Sharma had a criminal background and several cases were registered against him. Anurag Sharma has also been associated with the Hindu Jagran Manch and Shiv Sena in the past. After the hsopital declared him brought dead, his supporters vandalized the district hospital requiring more force to be deployed. His wife Shalini Sharma is a BJP councilor in Rampur.
After the incident took place, Inspector General Ramit Sharma visited the spot and ordered three teams to be set up to track the assailants. "We will arrest the accused at the earliest. The matter is being investigated," he said as quoted by news agency IANS.
The police also said that Anurag received two bullet injuries in the incident, adding that they are ascertaining the reason behind this dreadful act. Anurag Sharma’s body has also been sen t for the post mortem. The police also said that they are checking the footage of the CCTV camera installed in the area to identify the assailants.
Questions have been raised on the law and order situation of Uttar Pradesh after 5 incidents of murder were reported from the Moradabad division in last two days. Earlier on Tuesday, Smajwadi Party leader and his son were shot dead in broad day light in Sambhal over a scuffle regarding the work of roads under MNREGA.
