As coronavirus cases spike, Punjab announces complete ban on public gatherings, weddings restricted to 30
In view of the rising coronavirus cases, the Punjab government on Monday announced a complete ban on public gatherings and new restrictions on marriage and social functions in the state. According to the new rules, social gatherings have been restricted to five people and marriage functions to 30 persons from the current 50.
"Punjab government has put a complete bar on all public gatherings while restricting social gatherings to five and marriages/other social functions to 30 instead of the current 50," Punjab Chief Minister's Office (CMO) said.
The new rules will be followed strictly and mandatory police action will be taken against those violating the coronavirus guidelines in the state.
"Mandatory FIRs shall be filed against those found violating the curb on public gatherings, which now stand strictly disallowed," the CMO added.
According to the revised coronavirus guidelines, wearing masks will now be mandatory in the state even while working in offices or closed places. The Punjab government has also decided to popularise and use the online Public Grievance Redressal Sysytem recently approved by the state Cabinet.
"Wearing of masks has been made compulsory in work places/offices/ closed places, as per the new guidelines, with also directs strict enforcement of the Health Department advisory on Air Conditioning and ventilation/air circulation," the government said in a statement.
The number of coronavirus cases in Punjab has increased to 7,821 with 199 deaths.
