New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Veteran actor Anupam Kher’s eight-year-old tweet on patriotism created a ruffle on Twitter with Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Sunday.

Quoting American author Edward Abbey in a tweet in the year 2012, vocal BJP supporter Anupam Kher tweeted, "A patriot must always be ready to defend his country against his government."

Retweeting an 8-year-old tweet of Anupam Kher, Tharoor in a quipped manner, wrote, "Thanks @AnupamPKher. Agree with you totally here. "Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and your government when it deserves it (~Mark Twain)."

As the trend of picking up old tweets by political leaders and celebrities has given birth to many spats online, likewise this incident also turned into a heated war on microblogging site Twitter.

As a response to Tharoor’s tweet, Kher promptly highlighted his "unemployment and brainwashing" by tweeting in Hindi: "You searched for my 2012 tweet, commented on it. This is a sign of joblessness and one that of a weak mind. This proves you have stooped low. My tweet is still relevant for the corrupt. You know it."

Arguing over his statement, Tharoor got back at Kher asking: “What would you say about a government that only quotes 1962,1975& 1984?” He lashed out by saying that this is also a sign of joblessness and one that of a weak mind. My tweet is for those people who are showing incompetence at the Indian border.

The two were seen earlier seen locking heads with each other on a twitter brawl in 2016. The exchange of tweets turned ugly after Kher blamed Shashi to be scared to admit that he is a Hindu.

Both personalities have been reported to engage in similar brawls in the past over political issues.
