Amarnath Yatra 2020 to begin from July 21, here’s all you need to know
Jammu | Jagran News Desk: The Shri Amarnathji Shrine Board (SASB) on Saturday said that the Amarnath Yatra 2020 will begin from July 21 and end on August 3.
In a statement, the SASB said that the annual “Pratham Puja” for the Yatra was held on June 5 at the shire, adding that it has cut short the duration of the yatra because of the coronavirus pandemic in the country. The number of pilgrims this year has also been restricted to 4,000 or 5,000 in wake of the coronavirus pandemic.
“Although this year the yatra may commence later than last year, but we are all set to start the yatra within the stipulated time. All security arrangements from Jawahar Tunnel on Jammu Srinagar National Highway have been put in place with proper synergy between Jammu Kashmir Police and other security agencies,” News 18 quoted DC Anantnag Kuldeep Kumar Sidha as saying.

This year, people above the age of 55, except Sadhus, won’t be allowed to take a part in the pilgrimage, the SASB while adding that people taking part in the pilgrimage would need to possess a negative coronavirus certificate.
“The pilgrims will be cross-checked for the virus before they are allowed to undertake the Yatra on entry into Jammu and Kashmir,” IANS quoted a SASB official as saying.
What about the routes?
The officials have clearly stated that pilgrims will not be allowed to undertake this year’s Yatra through the Pahalgam route. All the pilgrims are allowed to undertake the Yatra through the north Kashmir Baltal route, the officials said.

The authorities have said that they will broadcast the aarti, which is performed twice a day, live for all devotees across the country for all the 15 days of the Yatra.
Helicopters from Baltal base camp
Officials have said that because of the non-availability of local labourers and the difficulties in maintaining the track from the base camp to the cave shrine, Yatra 2020 will be performed by using helicopters from Baltal base camp in Ganderbal district to the cave shrine.
