2,555 new COVID-19 infections take India’s tally past 49,000-mark; death toll nears 1,700
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The total number of COVID-19 cases in India reached 49,391, with 2,555 new infections recorded in last 24 hours. The death toll also surged to 1,694 after 126 fatalities were reported from across the country in a day, according to the data provided by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on Wednesday morning.
Of the the total 49,391 cases, 33,514 are active cases, while 14,182 people have been cured and discharged from the hospitals from across India.
In India, Maharashtra topples the list the worst-affected state, with 15,525 COVID-19 cases and 617 coronavirus linked deaths. Mumbai alone accounted for more than 9,700 cases and 387 deaths in the state so far, while Pune also crossed the 2,000-mark and reached 2,201 infections, with 120 people succumbing to the deadly contagion in the city.
Maharshtra is followed by Gujarat, where 6,245 people have contracted deadly virus and 368 people have lost their lives so far. Among districts in Gujarat, Ahmedabad accounts for the highest number of cases at 4,425, followed by Surat at 723 and Vadodara at 405.
Third on the list where most number of infections have been reported is Delhi, where 5,104 people have been afflicted by the virus, while 64 people have succumbed to the coronavirus, so far.
