‘Will return my Padma Shri if I can’t prove myself’: Kangana Ranaut on Sushant Singh Rajput’s death claims
New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Bollywood actress Kangana Ranaut in an interview said that she will return her Padma Shri award if she fails to prove the claims that she has made about the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise. The actress was honoured with the Padma Shri award for the film Panga.
Ever since Sushant Singh Rajput’s demise, people along with some celebrities and politicians have been claiming that the actor had been a target of Bollywood’s nepotism. He died by committing suicide on June 14 battling depression.
According to a report by Republic TV, Queen actress Kangana Ranaut has now said that if she cannot prove the claims she has made, she'll return the Padma Shri.
"They (Mumbai Police) summoned me, and I asked them too, that I'm in Manali, that you can send somebody to take my statement, but I have not received anything after that. I am telling you, if I have said anything, which I can't testify, which I can't prove, and which is not in the public domain, I will return my Padma Shri," Kangana told Republic TV.
"I don't deserve it. I am not that person who will go on record (to make such statements), and everything that I have said is in the public domain," she added.
Kangana further said, "Tomorrow, needy outsiders like Taapsee Pannu, Swara Bhasker will get up and say that they love this industry. I am only saying if you love this industry and if you love Karan Johar, then why are you not getting work like Alia or Ananya? Their whole existence is proof of nepotism. There will be articles that will make me look like a mad person after this, I know."
After Sushant Singh Rajput’s sudden demise, Kangana Ranaut claimed in a video that Sushant had been facing pressure and rejection from "Bollywood" and the "media". She had accused several members of the film industry of propagating nepotism.
She also refused to label him as a “mentally weak person” and added that the actor died because he was mentally murdered by them as he was an “outsider.” The actress had also taken names of Karan Johar, Aditya Chopra, and Mahesh Bhatt in the ‘campaign’ against Sushant.
On the professional front, Kangana Ranaut is working hard for her upcoming film Dhaakad even amid lockdown. The actress recently took to Twitter to share a screen capture of a virtual script reading with the director and producers.
