New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: In a terrible news for Bollywood, music composer Wajid Khan of Sajid-Wajid fame, passed away at a hospital in Mumbai on Monday. Confirming the news, singer Sonu Nigam posted on his official social media handle: "My brother Wajid left us."

As per media reports, Wajid had been suffering from kidney problems over the last few years. Faridoon Shahryar, a journalist from said that Wajid was suffering from COVID-19. A report from Zee News also confirmed that he died of COVID-19.

Several celebrities took to social media platforms to express their grief and offer condolences:

Priyanka Chopra Jonas called it a "terrible news".

"Terrible news. The one thing I will always remember is Wajid bhai's laugh. Always smiling. Gone too soon. My condolences to his family and everyone grieving. Rest in peace my friend. You are in my thoughts and prayers," she wrote on micro-blogging site.

Composer, Singer Salim Merchant also took to Twitter and said, "Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid -Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family. Safe travels bro Wajid Khan you've gone too soon. It's a huge loss to our fraternity. I'm shocked & broken. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un."

Actor Varun Dhawan, also took to Twitter to express his condolences.

"Shocked hearing this news Wajid Khan bhai was extremely close to me and my family. He was one of the most positive people to be around. We will miss u Wajid bhai thank u for the music," he said in a Tweet post.

The Sajid-Wajid duo had last worked together on Salman khan's song 'Bhai Bhai', released on the occasion of Eid amid coronavirus-induced lockdown. Recently, he had also sang a song titled "Pyaar karona", a pop anthem encouraging all to fight the coronavirus. His popular works are "Hud hud dabangg", "Mujhse shadi karogi", "Chinta ta chita", "Raat bhar", "fevicol se", "Tujhe aksa beach" among others.
