New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk:  Singer-composer Wajid Khan of music director duo Sajid-Wajid popular for works in Salman Khan's films like 'Ek Tha Tiger', 'Dabangg' and 'Ek Tha Tiger' passed away during early hours of Monday due to coronavirus, as per reports.

Speaking to PTI, musician Salim Merchant said, he was reportedly suffering from kidney issue and had transplant a while ago. He was on a ventilator for the last four days, after his situation started getting worse. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Wajid Khan was born in Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh. He was the son of Ustad Sharafat Ali Khan, a tabla player. He was trained by his father from an early age. His maternal grandfather Ustad Faiyyaz Ahmed Khan Saab was the recipient of the Padma Shri, while his uncle Ustad Niyaz Ahmed Khan Saab won the prestigious Tansen Award.


The music composer duo made their Bollywood debut with Salman Khan's movie 'Pyaar Kiya Toh Darna Kya'. In 1999, they scored music for Sonu Nigam's album Deewana which includes songs 'Is Kadar Pyar Hai', 'Ab Mujhe Raat Din', 'Deewana Tera'. During the same year, they worked as music directors for 'Hello Brother', 'Hata Sawan Ki Ghata'.

They went on to work in films such as 'Kya Yehi Pyaar Hai', 'Tumko Na Bhool Payenge' 'Gunaah', 'Chori Chori', Kal Kissne Dekhna', 'Garv', 'Tere Naam', 'Partner', 'Tumko Na Bhool Payenge' and 'Dabangg' franchise.

Wajid also did playbacks for Salman in 'Fevicol Se', 'Mera Hi Jalwa', and Akshay Kumar in 'Chinta Ta Chita Chita' from 'Rowdy Rathore', among others. He recently composed songs 'Bhai Bhai' and 'Pyaar Karona' were released on YouTube.

The duo also served as mentors on reality shows 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa Singing Superstar' and 'Sa Re Ga Ma Pa 2012'. They composed title track for television reality shows Bigg Boss season 4 and 6. The composer duo had also composed IPL 4 theme song 'Dhoom Dhoom Dhoom Dhadaka', sung by Wajid.

Some of the awards won by the composer duo are 'Filmfare Award', 'Mirchi Music Awards', 'Zee Cine Awards', 'GiMA Award', 'Star Screen Award', among others.
