New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi was all praises for filmmaker David Dhawan's Coolie No.1 after Varun Dhawan posted that his team at sets has opted for a plastic-free environment are using steel bottles for drinking water.

"Superb gesture by the team of #CoolieNo1! Happy to see the film world contributing towards freeing India from single-use plastic," PM Modi retweeted on Thursday.

Earlier Varun Dhawan revealed his set is plastic-free and promoted PM's move to boycott plastic. "Being a plastic-free nation is the need of the hour and great initiative taken by our prime minister and we can all do this by making small changes. The sets of #CoolieNo1 will now only use steel bottles. @PMOIndia," he wrote on Twitter.

PM Modi has called for a nationwide boycott for single-use plastic and urged people to support the cause. "My government has announced that India will put an end to the single-use plastic in the coming years. I believe the time has come for even the world to say good-bye to single-use plastic," Prime Minister Modi said while addressing the 14th Conference of Parties (COP14) to United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD)," he said on Wednesday.

The Union government is likely to announce ban on single-use plastic from Oct 2 (Mahatma Gandhi's 75th birth anniversary). Hefty fines would be imposed for those found who will be found using plastic.

Meanwhile, Coolie No. 1 is taking place in Bangkok in which Sara Ali Khan and Varun are playing lead roles. The 1995 remake is being produced by Vashu Bhagnani, Jackky Bhagnani and Deepshikha Deshmukh
