Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh's on-screen chemistry travelled beyond scripts and is a fairy tale for all
New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: The unfortunate demise of 67-year-old veteran actor Rishi Kapoor has left the Bollywood and the country in a shock. The actor was admitted to Mumbai's Sir HN Reliance Foundation Hospital on Wednesday.
Rishi Kapoor was battling blood cancer or Leukemia from the last two years. Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan confirmed the demise of Rishi Kapoor on Twitter. “He's GONE ..! Rishi Kapoor .. gone .. just passed away. I am destroyed,” he tweeted.
Rishi Kapoor was an ever-eternal star and his romantic roles were something he was adored for but the first chocolate boy of Bollywood had an exceptionally real on-screen chemistry with wife Neetu Singh.
Neetu Singh had been dating Rishi since she was a teenager who had been well established in the industry by then. Neetu's and Rishi's first film together was Zehreela Insaan which was released in 1974. The movie was based on a love story that probably travelled beyond the scripts.
While Rishi and Neetu were dating each other, Neetu's mother didn't like it as the girl was just a beginner then and she thought that any controversies would hinder in her daughter's career. So every time Rishi would take Neetu for a dinner date, she would come along with her cousin.
Soon Rishi asked out Neetu for marriage and this time with the consent of Neetu's mother, the couple tied the wedding knots. Though Neetu Kapoor's mother was happy for the daughter, the daughter herself being the bread-winner of the family was in a dilemma. Rishi Kapoor then invited Neetu's mother to come and stay with the couple and everything got resolved.
Back in 1980 Kapoor family worked on a patriarchal model, the ladies of the house were not allowed to work and similarly, Neetu gave up on her acting career. Though then the Industry was rumoured that it was Rishi Kapoor who forced the decision on Neetu. Neetu, however, denied to all the allegations and said, "Rishi Kapoor is a very supportive husband."
After a good break of 30 years, the couple had returned on screen with Love Aaj Kal and then did many films together as a couple like Do Dooni Char and Besharam. In one of the interviews, Rishi Kapoor confessed that it is only now that he has started getting good scripts, something he always wished for. "The good time has started," the terrific actor had said while expressing his love for acting.
