New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Sushant Singh Rajput, the 34-year-old noted Bollywood actor, who committed suicide on June 14 was laid to rest on Monday afternoon at the Vile Parle crematorium in Mumbai.

Apart from his family members, Sushant's last rites were attended by Shraddha Kapoor, Varun Sharma, Kriti Sanon, Mukesh Chhabra and Abhishek Kapoor.  

Earlier in the day, Sushant's postmortem was conducted at the Dr RN Cooper Municipal General Hospital and the reports found that the "cause of death is asphyxia due to hanging", said the police.

"Provisional postmortem report has been submitted by doctors at Bandra Police Station. Team of 3 doctors have conducted the autopsy of Sushanth Singh Rajput. The provisional cause of death is asphyxia due to hanging," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abhishek Trimukhe.

The 34-year-old actor was found hanging at his residence in Mumbai’s Bandra on Sunday by his domestic help who alerted the police about the shocking incident.

Sushant, who is survived by his father and four sisters, was suffering from depression from the last six months, said the police while adding that an investigation is underway.

The police informed that accidental death report will be registered on the basis of preliminary information sources, adding that no suicide note was found from the spot. However, sources – reported by news agency PTI – has said that the police did not find any foul play in their initial investigation.

“Actor Sushant Singh Rajput has died apparently due to hanging but police can tell the exact cause of his death only after receiving post mortem report. So far, we have not found any suspicious object,” Abhishek Trimukhe, DCP Zone 9, Mumbai was quoted as saying by news agency ANI.

However, Sushant’s family has alleged that the actor didn’t commit suicide and he has been murdered. “We don’t think he committed suicide, police must investigate the matter. There seems to be a conspiracy behind his death. He has been murdered,” his maternal uncle was quoted as saying by ANI.

"We are leaving for Mumbai now. The last rites will be performed there. We still can't believe that he is no more. If needed, we will ask for investigation as well," said his relative and BJP MLA Niraj Kumar Singh Babloo, as reported ANI.

Sushant’s untimely death comes just six days after his former manager, 28-year-old Disha Salian, ended her life by jumping from a high rise building on June 9. “It's such devastating news. My deepest condolences to Disha's family and friends. May your soul rest in peace,” Sushant had said, mourning her death.

Meanwhile, Sushant’s sudden has left the entire country in shock. Fans, politicians, Bollywood stars and cricketers have expressed grief over his death and called it ‘shocking’.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed grief over Sushant's death and said that he his "rise in the world of entertainment inspired many". "Sushant Singh Rajput...a bright young actor gone too soon. He excelled on TV and in films. His rise in the world of entertainment inspired many and he leaves behind several memorable performances. Shocked by his passing away. My thoughts are with his family and fans. Om Shanti," PM Modi tweeted.

Bollywood actor Akshay Kumar also expressed grief and said that this incident has left him "shocked and speechless". "Honestly this news has left me shocked and speechless...I remember watching Sushant Singh Rajput in Chhichhore and telling my friend Sajid, its producer how much I’d enjoyed the film and wish I’d been a part of it. Such a talented actor...may God give strength to his family," he tweeted.

Sushant came into fame for his wonderful performance in the television show 'Pavitra Rishta'. He soon made his Bollywood debut in Kai Po Che in 2013. Sushant played the lead role in MS Dhoni: The Untold Story. His acting was widely praised in the movie and several people called him the next “big thing” in the Bollywood. Sushant was last seen Chhichhore along with Shraddha Kapoor.
