Ranbir Kapoor to play the lead in Sourav Ganguly's biopic? Cricketer CONFIRMS the film; here's all you need to know
New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: It's a 'yes' from Sourav Ganguly to shoot for his biopic. You read that right! The former ace cricketer has given a 'go ahead' for making a film on him which is expected to be a big banner Bollywood movie just like Sachin and MS Dhoni's film.
As per sources, the estimated budget of the film is said to be around Rs 200 to 250 crore. Sourav Gangully has confirmed the making of the film and while speaking to News18 he said, "Yes, I have agreed to the biopic. It will be in Hindi but it is not possible to say the name of the director now. It will take a few more days for arranging everything."
According to reports, the film is still under the scripting process and amidst this, the makers are leaving no stone unturned to research about the sportsman's life. The production house is having numerous meets with Ganguly to understand every important detail which can be put in the film.
Is Ranbir Kapoor playing the lead?
One of the main attractions of a biopic is the actor who's playing the lead. And as per sources, Ranbir Kapoor's name is being finalised for the lead in Sourav Ganguly's film. Yes, the actor is the 'hot choice' for the former Indian Cricket Team captain's role. Also, Ganguly has himself spoke about Ranbir but there are two more prominent actors as well.
Meanwhile, talking about the film, it will portray Dada's (Sourav's addressed by this name from his fans) journey from being a cricketer till now a BCCI president. However, the film is still about to go on floors therefore, the release date has not yet been finalised.
On the other hand, sports biopics in India have been huge hits like MS Dhone: The Untold Story, Sachin: A Billion Dreams, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, Chak De! India and many more.
And now, apart from Dada's biopic, there's another cricket film based on true events is in the making and that is '83'. The film is based on Indian Cricket Team's first World Cup victory in 1983. Ranveer Singh will be seen playing the role of former cricketer and captain Kapil Dev, meanwhile, his real-life wife Deepika Padukone will essay the role of his on-screen wife.
