New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Ayushmann Khurrana’s gay rom-com Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan released on the big screens yesterday and the audience has already given a thumbs up to the movie.

Owing to Ayushmann’s superb acting and Jitendra Kumar’s -- Ayushmann’s better half in the film -- innocent gay lover image, depicting the challenges of homosexual relationships, the film is receiving praise from across the world. Even US President Donald Trump can’t ignore it and called the film ‘Great’.

Recently, world-renowned British gay rights activist Peter Tatchell tweeted about Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and showered praise for the film’s storyline highlighting the challenges of a homosexual relationship with comedy. Peter Tatchell in his tweet said, "India: A new #Bollywood rom-com featuring a gay romance is hoping to win over older people, following the decriminalisation of homosexuality. Hurrah! http://ow.ly/mcQs50yro76 @TheQueerAsia @beinglgbti @cadrsunilgupta @NazProjectLdn."

And to Peter’s surprise, his tweet caught the attention of US President Donald Trump who retweeted Peter’s post and wrote, “Great”.

Donald Trump has not been a regular advocate of LGBTQ rights, while some of his right-wing supporters are quite vocal opposing homosexual relationships. Peter even tweeted after Trump’s retweet expressing shock over his gesture and wrote in another tweet, “I hope this is the beginning of President Trump's genuine embrace of LGBT+ rights & not just a PR stunt. Want more great news like the Bollywood gay rom-com?”.

Using comedy, writer-director Hitesh Kewalya explained the complicated situation of being gay in the Indian culture and the challenges any homosexual couple go through while making the love affair public. The film is getting praises from critics since its release on February 21.

Trump’s praise comes days ahead of his February 24 visit to India, where he will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and could possibly sign a major trade deal. Trump will be accompanied by US First lady Melania Trump. The Trumps will also visit the iconic Taj Mahal in Agra.
