‘He died due to his kidney infection, not COVID-19’: Salim Merchant quashes false reports about Wajid Khan’s death
New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Bollywood on Monday woke up to another heartbreaking news of music composer Wajid Khan’s death. The singer-composer of duo Sajid-Wajid, passed in a hospital at the age of 42 succumbing to his kidney infections.
However, rumors about Wajid Khan's death are all over the internet which says that the 42-year-old music composer died due to Covid-19. But singer-composer Salim Merchant recently, put an end to all the rumors.
In an interview with Bombay Times, Salim Merchant said, "We all know that he was sick and unwell for a while now but still his demise was a complete shocker. Wajid did not die of COVID-19. There have been false news floating around since last night. It is very sad that his kidney infection got worse and it got the better of him ultimately. He had multiple problems, it went to his throat, he was a diabetic and he had other health problems too that he finally succumbed to.”
Salim Merchant admitted that Wajid was diagnosed with Covid-19 but he did not die due to it. He was suffering from kidney and heart conditions for quite some time now. He added that he was a diabetic and had several health problems. He died because his kidney infection got worse.
He further revealed that Wajid exerted himself a lot while working on the music of Dabangg 3 last year, which eventually took a toll on his health and led to a kidney infection.
Salim Merchant, after the news pf Wajid Khan broke out wrote on his Twitter, "Devastated with the news of the passing away of my brother Wajid of Sajid -Wajid fame. May Allah give strength to the family. Safe travels bro @wajidkhan_live you’ve gone too soon. It’s a huge loss to our fraternity. I’m shocked & broken. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji'un"

Several celebrities like Salman Khan, Amitabh Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra, Varun Dhawan, Sonu Nigam, and others also paid condolences on social media.
Salim Merchant also revealed that Wajid was admitted in Chembur's Surana Hospital a few days ago where his condition deteriorated. Wajid's last composition was superstar Salman Khan's lockdown song 'Pyaar Karona'.
