Lucknow | Jagran News Desk: Kanika Kapoor, the famous Bollywood singer, has tested positive for the novel coronavirus that claimed the lives of five people in India. According to reports, the famous ‘Babydoll’ singer was admitted at a hospital in Lucknow after she returned from London. The 41-year-old singer has been quarantined and is under observation.

"For the past four days I have had signs of flu, I got myself tested and it came positive for COVID-19. My family and I are in complete quarantine now and following medical advice on how to move forward. Contact mapping of people I have been in touch with is underway aswell," she said in an official statement. 

Earlier on Friday, the authories reported that four people, inlcuding a famous Bollywood singer, had tested positive for coronavirus, taking the total number of cases in the city to nine.

This is first incident of a famous Bollywood celebrity testing positive for the COVID-19 virus.

The novel coronavirus, which originated in China's Wuhan, has claimed the lives of five and affected more than 200 in India. 

Due to the virus, several B-Town celebrities have cancelled their shoots and are not heading out to avoid getting infected from COVID-19.

The deadly virus has also impacted the Box Office collections of several films. Many actors have also postponed the release of their film in wake of the deadly virus.    

Recently, megastar Amitabh Bachchan, who has been quite vocal on social media to spread awareness regarding the novel coronavirus for last few days, on Tuesday took to social media to share a picture of his hand with Home Quarantined stamp.

In a tweet post, he wrote, "T 3473 - Stamping started on hands with voter ink, in Mumbai .. keep safe, be cautious, remain isolated if detected".

Another Bollywood icon, Dilip Kumar on Monday said he is under complete isolation as a precuationary measure to avoid infections due to coronavirus outbreak. The 97-year-old actor shared his health update on Twitter.
