New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: A day after his dramatic arrest in Madhya Pradesh’s Ujjain, dreaded gangster Vikas Dubey was killed in an encounter on Friday morning while being brought back to Uttar Pradesh via road.

According to the police, the car carrying him overturned due to heavy rains after which the gangster snatched the pistol of a policeman and tried to escape. He was asked to surrender, but Dubey opened fire at the police and was killed in retaliatory firing.

Social media reacted to the news, with some hailing the police action while others questioning the turn of events. Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu reacted on the encounter, drawing parallel with the Bollywood scripts.

She tweeted, "Wow! We did not expect this at all !!!! And then they say our bollywood stories are far from reality". 

Dubey was killed in an encounter on Friday after a police vehicle carrying him from Ujjain to Kanpur met with an accident and he tried to escape from the spot in Bhauti area.

Four policemen, including an inspector posted in Nawabganj, were injured in the accident, IG, Kanpur Range, Mohit Agarwal said.

Vikas Dubey, who was carrying a reward of Rs five lakh on information leading to his arrest, was arrested from Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday. 

The variation in theories - one by the police and the other by temple authorities - pointed out that the gangster may have staged his arrest in order to evade a possible encounter killing.

The opposition also targeted the UP government, saying that it was falsely patting its back while the gangster had planned his arrest. 

Following the encounter, questions are again being raised by the oppposition, alleging that the encounter was staged to shield the names of some politicians and top cops.
