'I've got no option...': Mukesh Bhatt confirms Sadak 2 will release on OTT platform
New Delhi | Jagran Entertainment Desk: Sadak 2, the much-awaited film of the year, will be released on OTT platforms, film producer Mukesh Bhatt has confirmed. Sadak 2, the sequel of the 1991 hit film Sadak, which was one of the highest-grossing films starring Sanjay Dutt and Pooja Bhatt, stars Alia Bhatt and Aditya Roy Kapur in lead roles. The film is being directed by Mahesh Bhatt, who is returning after 20 years. Mahesh Bhatt had last directed Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff and Manisha Koirala-starrer Kartoos in 1999.
Speaking about the film's release, producer Mukesh Bhatt told news agency PTI, "It (referring to COVID-19 cases) is increasing day-by-day instead of subsiding. In this situation do you think the theatres will open? And even if they do and 'Sadak 2' is released, will people go to watch it? People have to protect their families. Today, life is more important."
He said that the 1991 film Sadak was an ambitious project which was made for the big screen. However, considering the current scenario, makers will have to go for the digital release to 'survive' in these times of crisis.
Bhatt further revealed the reason behind the idea of OTT release. "I am compelled to come (on the digital platform) because I don't see any light in the near future. This is the best I can do to survive. There are certain things that you do, not out of choice but out of compulsion. This is the only option left. It is a no-brainer."
However, he said the audiences and filmmakers would prefer a big-screen release that is more entertaining and that digital premiere is 'temporary'.
"Now that films are releasing on OTT, it doesn't mean theatres will shut down. People need outing, big-screen entertainment is fun. It is a temporary phase. We need to understand it rationally and not blast or put each other down. We should lift each other up."
The film is yet to finish its last two days' shooting which had to be put on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will be resumed in July. "I have got no option, so I will definitely consider OTT. We have not made this film to put it in lock and key. We want to bring it to people so that they enjoy the film," he added.
The other films that will be heading an OTT release are Laxmi Bomb starring Akshay Kumar and Kiara Advani, Bhuj: The Pride Of India starring Ajay Devgn, Dil Bechara starring late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and debutant actress Sanjana Sanghi, The Big Bull starring Abhishek Bachchan, Khuda Hafiz, Jahnvi Kapoor’s The Kargil Girl, Sakuntala Devi led by Vidya Balan.
