Maharashtra Govt Formation | Decision on alliance with Sena tomorrow: Congress after CWC meet
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: Day after the Congress leaders met the NCP leaders to discuss the ongoing impasse over the government formation in Maharashtra, the Congress Working Committee (CWC), Congress’ highest decision-making body, held a meeting today to review the political scenario in the state.
After the meeting at party chief Sonia Gandhi's 10 Janpath residence concluded, Congress general secretary, KC Venugopal, said “We have apprised the CWC members of the latest political situation in Maharashtra. Today, Congress-NCP discussion will continue. I think, tomorrow, we will probably have a decision in Mumbai”, as reported by news agency ANI.

In the meeting, Congress chief Sonia Gandhi was broadly advised to go ahead with the Congress-Sena-NCP alliance. According to NDTV sources, she was told ‘that the greater enemy in order to fight communalism id the BJP’.
Another meeting between Congress and NCP is to happen Thursday night and a final meeting with Shiv Sena will happen Friday in Mumbai, as reported by news agency PTI. The decision on government formation in Maharashtra will be announced in Mumbai on Friday, the sources said.
After meetings on Wednesday with the NCP at its chief Sharad Pawar's home, the Congress said, "some aspects of the alliance" were still to be discussed AND that they would soon provide a stable government in Maharashtra adding that the discussions to form the government with Shiv Sena has to be worked out.
“Congress-NCP has had long and positive discussions today. Discussions will continue; I am sure we will be able to give a stable government to Maharashtra very soon,” said Congress’ Prithviraj Chavan after holding the meeting with NCP leaders.
While NCP leader Nawab Malik said, “Congress-NCP together decided that we must give an alternate government in Maharashtra. It is not possible without NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena coming together. We are trying our best to resolve all issues. We will provide an alternate government as soon as possible.”
The Congress-NCP meeting took place hours after a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and NCP chief Sharad Pawar, officially on the farmer’s crisis in Maharashtra, which raised eyebrows, as the meet comes amid the tussle over government formation in the state.
Meanwhile, on Wednesday, playing down the long-prevailing suspense over the government formation in Maharashtra, Shiv Sena MP Sanjay Raut on Wednesday said that “all obstacles in the way of forming government in the state have been cleared and it would be a clear picture by tomorrow”.
