Maharashtra Coup | 'BJP trying to poach our MLAs, will get befitting response in floor test': Congress
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: After the Supreme Court reserved its order for floor test in Maharashtra for Tuesday, the Congress accused the BJP of poaching the MLAs of 'Maha Vikas Aghadi' (Shiv Sena-NCP-Congress alliance) and said that the saffron party is trying to mislead the top court.
Addressing the media after the Supreme Court hearing, former Maharashtra Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said that the alliance have full majority and all its MLAs are intact.
"The BJP is trying to reach out to the MLAs of NCP, Shiv Sena and the Congress as they didn't have the numbers, which is why they are asking for time. They are trying to mislead the Supreme Court and buy time. But all our MLAs are intact and we have full majority and figures of more than 160 MLAs," he said.
The Congress further said that they have filed an affidavit which is signed by 154 MLAs and asked why the BJP needs more time from the top court. "Why does the BJP need more time? We have filed an affidavit which is signed by 154 MLAs. It's true that few NCP MLAs have given their signatures in our letter along with their (Ajit Pawar) letter," said former Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan.
Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala, who was also present with Ashok and Prithviraj Chavan, said that the alliance has demanded for an immediate floor test and the government formed by BJP's Devendra Fadnavis is illegitimate.
"Congress, Shiv Sena and NCP believe this is a murder of democracy in Maharashtra. We demanded floor test to prove that the majority rests with our alliance. The Supreme Court heard all arguments and reserved the order. We are confident that in Maharashtra, floor test will give the BJP a befitting reply," he said.
