Pune | Jagran News Desk: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and Sharad Pawar’s nephew Ajit Pawar resigned from the post of the legislator and the same has been accepted, Maharashtra Assembly Speaker Haribhau Bagade said on Friday.
The Speaker said Ajit Pawar did not disclose the reason while tendering the resignation.
"He gave his handwritten resignation letter to my PS. He called me up from there. I was surprised. I asked Dada (Ajit Pawar) why he was doing so. Dada told me he would tell me later. He insisted me to accept the resignation letter," Bagade told a news channel.
Sharad Pawar while describing Ajit Pawar’s resignation said, he was "disturbed" after the Enforcement Directorate (ED) named him in a money laundering case pertaining to the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank scam.
"I contacted his son and others to know the reason. He informed his family that he is very disturbed that uncle's (Sharad Pawar) name has been brought in a case in which his (Ajit Pawar) name is also there. He was very disturbed with this," Pawar told the media persons here.
Speaking to reporters, Sharad Pawar also dismissed reports of a feud in the family. "There is no feud. My decision is the last word in all family matters," he claimed, describing himself as a "fighter" who will fearlessly face the money laundering case lodged against him in the Rs. 25,000-crore Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank scam.
He claimed that Ajit is not even a member of the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank.
