Palamu | Jagran News Desk: Amid polling for the first phase in Jharkhand, a clash broke out between BJP and Congress supporters in Kosiyara village of Chainpur, reported news agency IANS.

According to the report, Congress candidate from Chainpur, KN Tripathi, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Alok Chaurasia and his supporters of looting the booths. Meanwhile, a video has surfaced in which Tripathi can be seen brandishing a revolver.

Sources -- quoted by IANS -- said that BJP supporters stopped Tripathi from going to the booth after which supporters of both the parties clashed adding that the security personnel over there tried to handle the situation.

Meanwhile, the Election Commission (EC) has taken cognizance of the incident and sought a report in this regard from the district administration.

This is the second incident of violence which was reported in Jharkhand since the voting commenced at 7.00 am. Earlier in the day, the Naxals blow up a bridge in Bishunpur in Gumla district. However, no injuries have been reported and the voting process has not been affected, said Deputy commissioner Shashi Ranjan.

That was hours after Union Home Minister Amit Shah appealed the voters to vote for a "stable decision-making government" in the state so as to defeat corruption and Naxalism and also to maintain the pace of development in the state.

"To form a stable government and to make Jharkhand free from corruption and Naxalism, a government elected by majority needs to be formed. I appeal to all the voters voting in the first phase to contribute to keep Jharkhand on the path of development by voting in maximum numbers," he said in a tweet.
