Ranchi | Jagran News Desk: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday congratulated Hemant Soren and said that the BJP "respects the mandate". They also applauded the BJP workers for their efforts in the Assembly elections. 

Earlier in the day, JMM leader Hemant Soren, who is all set to become the Chief Minister of Jharkhand, addressed a press conference and said that the people of the state have given a clear mandate in favour of the grand alliance. He also thanked the leaders of Congress and RJD for suporting JNN.

"We fought the election in alliance with the Congress and the RJD. I would like to thank top leaders of both the parties, including Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Lalu Yadav," he said.

The exit polls, earlier, had predicted a hung assembly in the state with Congress-JMM-RJD alliance to get an edge over the BJP. According to the poll of polls, the Congress-JMM-RJD alliance will get 41 seats while the BJP might win 29 seats. The AJSU might win 4 while others will win around 7 seats in the state.

In the 2014 assembly election in Jharkhand, the BJP emerged as the single largest party and won 37 seats out of the 81-seat legislative assembly, while the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha bagged 19 seats. The Congress and the Jharkhand Vikas Morcha (JVM) won six and eight seats respectively.
