Ranchi | Jagran News Desk: The polling for the fifth and the final phase for the Assembly elections in Jharkhand is underway. The fate of 237 candidates, including two ministers and a former CM, will be decided in the phase of polling.

The polling that began at 7 am in all assembly segments will end at 3 pm in five constituencies of Borio (ST), Barhait (ST), Litipara (ST), Maheshpur (ST) and Sikaripara (ST). Voters in the rest of the assembly segments can exercise their franchise till 5 pm.

Here are the LIVE updates of the fifth and final phase of polling in Jharkhand:

17:40 pm: Jharkhand Assembly Polls 5th phase: 68.99% voter turnout recorded till 5 PM.

16:17 pm: 63.11 per cent voter turnout recorded till 3.00 pm. 

14:44 pm: Elaborate security arrangements have been made for the conduct of peaceful polling. Central paramilitary forces have been deployed at all booths across the state. 

13:58 pm: During voting for the fifth and final phase of Assembly elections in Jharkhand, a voter died of a heart attack here on Friday. The incident took place at Borrio, an administrative division in Sahibganj subdivision of Sahibganj district, in the morning, reports ANI.

13:45 pm: "Voting is taking place peacefully here. The man who had come to cast his vote fainted inside the polling booth and was being taken to the hospital. While he was being taken there, he suffered a heart attack and died. It was a natural death and was not related to violence," said Varun Ranjan, Deputy Commissioner-cum-District Magistrate.

13:06 pm: 37.14 per cent voter turnout recorded till 1.00 pm.

11:37 am: 29.19 per cent voter turnout recorded till 11.00 am.

10:36 am: The second phase of elections to Jharkhand Legislative Assembly took place in 20 Assembly constituencies on December 7, while the first phase of voting took place on November 30.

9:45 am: The third phase of elections took place in 17 Assembly constituencies covering 8 districts on December 12.

9:30 am: 12.01 per cent voter turnout recorded till 9.00 am.

 

9:12 am: The fourth phase of elections took place in 15 Assembly constituencies covering 4 districts on Dec 16.

8:15 am: Voting is underway across 16 constituencies in the final phase. Among these are Rajmahal, Borio (ST), Barhait (ST), Litipara (ST), Pakur, Maheshpur (ST), Shikaripara (ST), Dumka (ST), Jama (ST), Jarmundi, Nala, Jamtara, Sarath, Poreyahat, Godda, Mahagama.

8:07 am: The fifth and the last phase of voting in the Jharkhand assembly elections is today. I request all voters to vote in record numbers and join this festival of democracy, said PM Modi in a tweet.

7:45 am: As many as 133 polling stations have women staff while 1,347 have webcasting facilities, said Chief Election Officer Vinay Kumar Choubey.

7:35 am: The results for the Assembly Elections in Jharkhand will be announced on December 23.

7:30 am: In all, 40,05,287 electorate, including 19,55,336 women and 30 third gender voters, are eligible to cast their vote.
