Haryana assembly polls: Will Congress be able to win Bawal seat after losing it five consecutive times?
New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Haryana assembly will host the elections on 21 October and the results will be declared on 24 October, as decided by the Election Commission. The Manohar Lal Khattar-led BJP government in Haryana looks strong and will try its best to retain its power in the state. While Congress is doing every bit to defeat the BJP.
Talking about a particular constituency in Haryana assembly, Bawal, where Congress has been losing since the last five elections. Once a stronghold of Congress, the Bawal constituency is a big setback for the grand old party. Now in an attempt to end this long-running defeat, Congress has given the ticket to former Health Minister Dr. ML Ranga.
The Congress has lost five consecutive elections in Bawal. None of the party's strategies owing to win Bawal have been proved effective in changing the results. In the years 2005 and 2014 when the Congress was in power in the state, the people of Bawal chose an Independent candidate and INLD candidate respectively.
However, choosing an MLA in opposition to the power was also detrimental to the people of Bawal and the wheel of development did not catch the speed that was expected. However, in 2014, when there was a wave of BJP in both the country and the state, the people of Bawal also thought it appropriate to go with the flow.
Dr. Banwari Lal won as the BJP candidate for the first time in 2014. Congress candidates finished third.
However, the biggest achievement for the Congress in Bawal is the sub-division.
Bawal had the status of a district during the princely state of Nabha before independence at the time of the united Punjab. The huge fort built in the middle of the city of Bawal is also a witness to the historic headquarters of the Legislative Assembly. Bawal, after a long wait, got the status of sub-division during the Hooda government and this was the biggest achievement of Congress.
