New Delhi | Jagran Education Desk: The Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) on Sunday said that fresh dates for competitive exams-- NEET and JEE would be announced on May 5 (Tuesday). The exams were earlier postponed due to lockdown imposed to combat coronavirus pandemic.

Speaking to PTI, a senior ministry official said, "The fresh dates will be announced by HRD Minister Ramnaresh Pokhriyal 'Nishank' on May 5. This will put an end to uncertainity for the aspirants. The minister will also interact with students on the same day.

The examinations will be conducted only after the lockdown ends and situation gets back to normal. Though the agency has not specified the dates for examinations, they are likely to be held during the end of June.

While NEET or National Eligibility cum Entrance Test is conducted for admissions to medical colleges, Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) Main is conducted for enrollment in engineering colleges across the country.

The National Testing Agency (NTA), which conducts the exam, will notify the exam dates on its official website, once the announcement is made by the HRD minister.

Meanwhile, the application window for rectification of papers closes today. Candidates can make the fee payment till 11:50 pm.

With the announcement of entrance exam dates, the board exam dates will also be finalised. The admission process will only be held once the results for the Class 12 are declared. The Centre Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has will conduct the remaining papers of the board examination as soon as possible.
