New Delhi | Jagran News Desk: The Delhi government on Wednesday announced summer vacations in its government and government-aided schools from May 11 to June 30, reported news agency PTI quoting an official.

In a statement, the Delhi Directorate of Education said, "Summer vacation in govt & govt aided schools shall be observed as usual from 11th May to 30th June for students. However, keeping in view #COVID19, students shall not be called to schools for any teaching, learning activity during summer vacation."

"All the Heads of Govt. and Govt. Aided Schools under Directorate of Education are hereby directed to ensure that all students of their respective schools are duly informed regarding the above decision through SMS/telephone/WhatsApp," it added.

Due to the ongoing lockdown, the teaching and learning activities in schools have been suspended in schools since March 23. As per directions of the govt of NCT Delhi, the lockdown has been further extended till May 17. 

Earlier, the CBSE has asked all the schools to promote all the students of classes 1 to 9 and 11 based on their academic performance in view of COVID-19.

The announcement comes a day after the Union Human Resource and Development Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal announced that board exams 2020 for class 10 students will not take place nationwide except clash-hit North-East Delhi. 

He had also announced the entrance exam dates for NEET and JEE Main and said that announcement of remaining papers of Class 12 papers will be made in a couple of days. While the NEET exam will be held on July 26, the JEE Main exam will be conducted between July 23-26. The dates for JEE Advanced would be announced in August.

While JEE Main exams are held for admissions to engineering colleges across the country, NEET is conducted for admissions to medical colleges.
