WC 2019 | Ind vs NZ: India, New Zealand share one point each after washout
Nottingham | Jagran News Desk: The Indian team's alternative strategy in the absence of an injured Shikhar Dhawan will be put through a stern test by a feisty New Zealand attack ready to ask a few probing questions if weather does not play spoilsport in their World Cup encounter here Thursday.
The contest, which could be a curtailed one due to inclement weather, will have a quality Black Caps seam attack ready to make life difficult for a new opening pair that is likely to feature KL Rahul at the top alongside Rohit Sharma.
Dhawan has been ruled out of at least the next three games owing to a hairline fracture in his left thumb.
New Zealand have had a good record against India at global events. Kane Williamson's men would be more than determined to win four-on-trot and maintain their pole position.
Here are the highlights:
08:30 pm: With the rains showing no sign of withdrawal, the match was called off without a ball being bowled. Both the teams share one point each.
06:15 pm: It's raining heaving in Nottingham, further bleaking the chances of a match. The final decision from the match referee can be expected soon.
05:11 pm: While rain has stopped, there are visible mud patches in the ground. Nest inspection is scheduled at 6:00 PM IST.
04:30 pm: Drizzling has started again in Nottingham. Covers have been brought back. More wait for the viewers!
04:16 pm: The current inspection is over, next ground inspection to be done at 5 pm.
04:06 pm: All covers are off except the hover cover. All umpires are inspecting the ground. Next update is scheduled at 4:30 pm.
03:22 pm: The rain has stopped, next ground inspection has been scheduled for 4 pm. Meanwhile, super soppers continue to get the ground dried up for action.
03:08 pm: The outfield is pretty wet and is expected to take time to dry up as there's no sunshine. After heavy showers in the past two days, Thursday has been relatively drier although it remains overcast. Even if the match happens, it is expected to be a curtailed one as there is forecast of intermittent showers through the day.
02:41 pm: Light drizzle has started again in Nottingham. The ground inspection, which was scheduled at 3 pm, may be delayed further.
